Antifouling paint is an important item on the yachtsman's maintenance list there are many different ways to stop the bottom of your boat becoming fouled with marine growth. the most common is to apply a couple of coats of antifouling paint at the beginning of each season. For yachts  which are hauled out each year they will only need a moderate strength antifouling, but don't forget that in the warm and nutrient rich waters in this area marine growth is much more aggressive than in more northerly waters.

While nobody likes to pay more than they have to, it is false economy to buy just because a product is cheap, there are some antifoulings on the market which may work for the season in France, But here in the Ionian the  yachts hull is heavily fouled after just a few months, and the yachts sailing performance will be very slow.

The picture on the right is a local charter yacht which had been in the water only a few months after antifouling with a 'cheap' brand.

Fleet owners are able to benefit by buying their antifouling from CYS  in larger quantities, it is often much cheaper per liter when supplied in 20 ltr drums, Private yacht owners can also benefit from this saving if two or three get together and share a drum between them.
